Why this matters

Poverty is never just one problem.

Hunger, housing, health, and work are tangled together. A missed meal becomes a missed shift. An eviction becomes a lost job. Solving one crisis in isolation rarely holds, so we built for the whole person.

$100B+

in government aid and benefits goes unclaimed every year, not because people don’t qualify, but because they can’t navigate the maze in time.

47.9M

people in the U.S. lived in food-insecure households in 2024, including 14.1 million children.

Hours

lost calling agency after agency, only to hit dead ends, wrong numbers, and outdated lists.

One door

is all it takes. When the right resource is easy to find, everything downstream gets better.

To make it easier for every person, every family, and every nonprofit to reach the support they need to fight hunger, prevent poverty, reduce homelessness, and build stronger communities.
Our mission

Meet our founder

John Taylor

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

John Taylor founded and led the National Community Reinvestment Coalition for three decades, building one of the most influential coalitions for economic justice in the country. He founded ASPHP to carry that work into a new era, one where finding help is as simple as asking.

How JohnHelp works

Finding help should take minutes, not months.

No forms to decode. No jargon. No wrong way to ask.

1

Tell us what you need

Ask in plain language: “I need food this week” or “I’m about to be evicted.” No forms to decode, no jargon, no wrong way to ask. Available online, by phone, and in multiple languages.

2

We find the right help

JohnHelp searches a carefully vetted network of local programs across all twelve cornerstones of poverty and surfaces the ones you actually qualify for, closest to you.

3

You take the next step

Clear directions, hours, phone numbers, and what to bring, handed to you or to the nonprofit staffer helping you. One connection can change the shape of a life.

See it in action

Meet JohnHelp, the free way to find help.

Our flagship platform lets anyone describe what they need in plain language and instantly find free and low-cost local resources across all twelve cornerstones of poverty. Search opens on johnhelp.com.

Meet people where they are

Four ways to reach help.

The people who need help most are often the hardest to reach. So JohnHelp shows up everywhere they are, online, on their phone, on the line, and in their language.

Online

Search from any browser at home, at the library, or on a caseworker’s screen.

On your phone

Help in your pocket: search, save resources, and get directions from any phone’s browser, no app to download.

By phone

No smartphone or internet? A real conversation gets you the same trusted answers.

In many languages

Multilingual guidance meets people where they are, in the words they know best.

What we believe

Technology with a heartbeat.

We pair modern tools with human compassion, and we hold ourselves to a simple standard: build for the moment someone is most vulnerable.

Dignity first

Everyone who asks for help is met with respect. We build for the moment someone is most vulnerable, and we design for their dignity, not our convenience.

Strengthen, never replace

Local nonprofits are the heart of every community. We exist to make their work easier and their reach wider, never to compete with the people already doing the work.

Free, always

JohnHelp is free for families, free for nonprofit staff, and free for the community partners we serve. Cost should never stand between a person and their next step.

Technology with a heartbeat

We pair modern technology with human compassion. AI helps us find the right resource faster; people make sure it is the right one.

Real people, real turning points

What one connection can change.

I called about food for my kids. The person on the other end also found a clinic for my son’s asthma and a program that covered our heating bill. I came for one thing and left with a plan.

Our caseworkers used to keep a binder of phone numbers that was always out of date. Now the whole community’s resources are in one place. It has given our small team the reach of an organization ten times our size.

Executive Director, community nonprofit · Cleveland, OH
After I lost my job I didn’t know where to start. JohnHelp walked me from an eviction notice to rental assistance to a job-training program. Two months later I signed a new lease.
